I hear a bird off in the woods sometimes (never close to my house) that
sounds like a bird you might hear in an African jungle movie. Short
staccato calls that sound the same in quick succession, about 8 of them.
It's probably a pretty common bird I just don't know what it is.

Just a WAG... Try listening to the Pileated Woodpecker:

I think that's it, thanks. What I hear sounds most like No. 3 on the
sounds page. It makes sense because I knew they were real shy and I
rarely see them near the house, it's always a treat when I see one.
Wonder if they have those in Africa too, lol.

BTW I'm in TN.

You may be thinking of the Kookaburra Bird. Seems to have been
popular in old films for that night time jungle sound :)

First where do you live? North America, West, or East Coast, South, North East, NorthWest, MidWest, Rockies, EU, UK...
